Jamie Benn Captain of the Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have selected their new captain! Today it was announced that Jamie Benn will now be the captain of the team that has been captainless since trading Brenden Morrow last season. Naming Benn captain, it seems that the Stars are following the trend of having a young captain (John Tavares and Gabriel Landeskog to name a few). In his press conference Benn had this to say about being named captain:

“I’m deeply humbled and honored to be named the captain of the Dallas Stars. I look forward to representing this organization, my teammates, our fans and this great city in our pursuit to bring another Stanley Cup to Dallas.”

General manager of the Stars Jim Nill also spoke at the press conference:

“In a very short period of time, Jamie Benn has gone from being an exciting up-and-coming player in the NHL to being a cornerstone of the franchise. He has steadily grown as a player and as a person. He conducts himself each and every day in a professional way and continually leads by example. We fully believe that he will be a driving force in getting this team to the next level — and now he’s our captain.”

I myself am not very familiar with the Stars or Benn but if what Nill said about him is true I have no doubt he will make a great captain. What do you think? Is Jamie the right choice for captain? Who would you have picked instead? Tell us your thoughts in the comment box below, on facebook, or on twitter!
