The Toronto Maple Leafs shot down all the haters last year when they made it into the playoffs. Their run should have been a lot longer, but they broke down against the Boston Bruins in the 7th game. The team played great last season, and they hope to remake the playoffs at the end of this full season. Who can we count on to lead the team in the season this upcoming season? Here are my three picks for this team.
Nazem Kadri made quite a bit of noise last year. He even got kissed by NHL legend Don Cherry after scoring a hat trick. He was second in points behind Phil Kessel with 44 points in 48 games. Then in the playoffs he grabbed 4 points in 7 games. His regular season saw a +15 rating, the second highest on the team. This speedster has a lot to prove, and this season will be the one where he explodes into his place.
Dave Bolland was one of the Chicago Blackhawks who lifted the Stanley Cup last season. He was then sent off to the Toronto Maple Leafs in hopes of helping them raise the Cup. He only played 35 games, and he recorded 7 goals and 7 assists. In the playoffs, he notched 3 goals and 3 assists in just 18 games. He helped raise the Cup, and he can help this team make the playoffs this year.
This one is an obvious choice, but Dion Phaneuf needs to be a huge player for the team this year. Last season, he recorded 28 points (9G, 19A) in his 48-game season. When he hit the playoffs, he scored just 1 goal and 2 assists. He wasn’t the rock solid captain they needed last year, but this year will be different. He is going to be the hero of Toronto and everyone will have faith in him again. He is going to be producing points in the 90-100 range.
These are the three players that I think will stand out in the Toronto crowd. I hope I’m right, but I want to hear who you think will step up in the Leaf jersey. Comment below and follow us on Twitter (@TMMotS and @NardoneDylan).
