Free Agent News: Sedins, Ryan Whitney, Jared Cowen, Toronto Maple Leafs

With the season quickly approaching teams are beginning to tie down their Free Agents/ soon-to-be free agents. Let’s start with the Vancouver Canucks who are reportedly close to a deal with Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin according to Ed Willes of the Voncouver Province. Willes was told by the Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini that he sees nothing getting in the way of the extension.

Chris Nichols of Sportsnet the  St. Louis Blues have confirmed that Ryan Whitney will be attending their training camp on a tryout. Another tryout that was recently announced by Josh Rimer is the one Mason Raymond has been given with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

While we are on the subject of the Leafs let’s talk about the other free agents they have yet to sign, Nazem Kadri and Cody Franson. According to Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio, Toronto GM Dave Nonis had nothing  new to report regarding their contract negotiations.

A few hours away from there the Ottawa Senators have 4 different contract proposals on the table for Jared Cowen according to Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen. The Senators are currently waiting on Cowen to respond.

Cowan needs to play. Take one of them Bud, show them your stuff and take it from there. Perhaps none of the four offered are a bridge deal. That might be the issue.
