This is something that I’ve thought about throughout the playoffs. Once a game goes into overtime, the referees put away the whistles and let the teams play hockey. Now, I don’t have any issue with the referees letting them play, but the standards are supposed to stay the same throughout the game, whether it’s the first 5 minutes or the 4th overtime. What do you think? Should the standards of officiating change once regulation ends? Think about the missed boarding penalty in the Chicago and Detroit game. Or the hook that lead to the game winning goal in game 3 in Boston when Jaromir Jagr clearly hooked a Penguin. And we obviously wouldn’t have teams playing multiple overtimes and wearing themselves out.
