The New York Rangers have traded Marian Gaborik to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, and John Moore. Gaborik has played in 35 games this season where he has 9 goals and 10 assists. Brassard has played in 34 games with the Blue Jackets this season where he has 7 goals and 11 assists. Dorsett played in 24 games and has 3 goals and 6 assists. Moore has played in 17 games and has 1 assist.
Gaborik had to waive his no-trade clause to be traded to Columbus. There was a lot of speculation on where Gaborik would end up. Most thought it would be in San Jose for Boyle. Gaborik still has another year left on his contract which carries a 7.5 million dollar cap hit.
Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen had this to say about the trade according to Aaron Portzline:
Kekalainen on Gaborik: “His health is perfect. He’s in great shape. Slumps are natural, every athlete goes through them. He’s in one now.”
