Jay Bouwmeester to St.Louis Blues

After a lot of speculation the Calgary Flames have finally traded Jay Bouwmeester to the St. Louis Blues for a 2013 first round draft pick, Mark Cundari and Reto Berra. If St.Louis doesn’t make the playoffs the Flames will receive a 4th round 2013 draft pick and the 1st round pick will be deferred to 2014.

Bouwmeester has played 750 games in the NHL without ever making the playoffs. Cundari has played in the AHL for the past three seasons with Peoria, he has played in 56 games this season in which he has 7 goals 18 assists and 80 penalty minutes. Berra was the Blues’ 4th round pick in 2006 and has gone unsigned for the last 3 seasons. He has been playing in Switzerland’s top professional league  where he has played 49 games this seasons. He has a 3.01 goals against average and .906 save percentage.

The Flames now have 3 first round draft picks in the 2013 entry draft and are obviously looking to rebuild. There is still one piece left Miikka Kiprusoff and we will see what happens with him at the trade deadline. Most talks have him going to the Toronto Maple Leafs but Bob Mckenzie reported that there is another team involved in talks for Kipper. There is also a possibility that Kipper doesn’t get moved at all.
