Injury Updates: Coyotes, Hossa, Avalanche and Devils

It’s a good news, bad news situation for the Phoenix Coyotes. Bad news: goalie Mike Smith has not skated since getting run over by Alex Edler in the game against the Vancouver Canucks according to Jerry Brown of NHL.com. Brown also had good news for the Coyotes, defenseman Zbynek Michalek skated in morning skate on Monday and could be close to returning. Michalek has been out since March 9th when he took a puck to the foot.

The Chicago Blackhawks will still be without Marian Hossa for a little while longer according to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune. Coach Joel Quenneville did have something to say on a possible timeline for his return:

“Hopefully by the weekend (Hossa) will be playing,” Quenneville said. “Hossa hasn’t been on the ice the last couple of days but he’s progressing.”

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reported on the Colorado Avalanche’s injured. Paul Stastny injured his left foot blocking a shot and is expected to be out for 10 days. Ryan Wilson re-injured his ankle and is out indefinitely.

The New Jersey Devils lost both Bryce Salvador and Stephen Gionta to injury last night. Tom Gulitti reported that Salvador has a lower body injury and Gionta has an upper body injury. The extent of the injuries is still unknown.
