Injury Update: Devils, Flyers, and Blackhawks

Not a lot of injury updates today. Out of New Jersey, Tom Gulitti of The Record reported that Ilya Kovalchuk will be out for 2-4 weeks with a right shoulder injury. The New Jersey Devils right winger was injured in the third period of Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers. Gulitti also reported that the Devils have put Alexei Ponikarovsky on IR retroactive to make room for Harri Pesonen to be called up from Albany.

According to the Philadelphia Flyers twitter feed Danny Briere was injured in practice which was why he was not in the line up last night. GM Paul Holmgren said this:

“Danny Briere was injured in practice yesterday and is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury.”

Nicklas Grossmann was also out of the line up for the Flyers game against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night with an upper body injury.

NHL.com reported that Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said yesterday it was unlikely that Marian Hossa will return to the line up tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. Hossa did not practice yesterday and was out of Wednesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks with an upper-body injury. Andrew Shaw was not in practice yesterday either due to the flu and will likely miss the game tonight as well.

UPDATE: Briere is out indefinitely with a concussion.
