Maple Leafs Trade Rumors: Ribeiro, UFA's, Goalies

According to Mike Zwolinski of the Toronto Star the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a center and a top 4 defensman, possibly a veteran. However currently the team has 9 capable NHL defensemen. There may be some moves made to clear roster spots but it is looking more and more like the Leafs will make a playoff push with their current roster. Washington Capital’s center Mike Ribeiro‘s name has been mentioned but it isn’t clear what advantage he would bring to the team.

Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis said a lot of things to Hockey Central. Nonis said “We are going to be in the mix with a bunch of teams” and when asked if the Leafs would be buying or selling he said there is a “Possibility of both”. He also talked about the teams UFA’s:

“We have some UFA’s people are asking about … we’re perfectly prepared to keep them”

Sean Fitz-Gerald of the National Post also reported Nonis’s thoughts. According to him Nonis could swap picks for players, Nonis said:

“We are not sold on selling”

Nonis also talked about the goaltending situation saying that the Leafs would be fine going past the trade deadline without adding a goalie.
