NHL Trade Rumors: Tyler Bozak, Jarome Iginla, Corey Perry, Stars, Islanders, Flyers

Let’s start off today’s trade rumors with the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger the Leafs are in the market for a big 2nd or 3rd line center as well as an upgrade on defense. He also said that it is unlikely Tyler Bozak will be traded as he is needed for the playoff push, however it is also unlikely he will be resigned because the Leafs will not give him first line center money. This will likely make him a UFA come July.

According to Rob Rossi of Triblive, the Pittsburgh Penguins need a top four defensive defenseman and a scoring winger for their 3rd or 4th line. The team might be interested in Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames, but he wouldn’t be a top six forward for them. Speaking of Jarome, Eric Duhatschuk of the Globe and Mail said the Los Angeles Kings acquiring him in exchange for Jonathan Bernier is a move that wouldn’t make sense for the Kings given Jonathan Quick‘s game this season.

Duhatschuk also had a theory on likely places for the Anaheim Duck’s Corey Perry. He said that it was likely Perry would go to the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Detroit Red Wings, if he is looking to be closer to home. Plus the Wings have the money to spend. He also said that if contract negotiations with Derek Roy don’t go far the Dallas Stars could end up moving him, likely to the Vancouver Canucks.

ESPN’s Katie Strang reported that the New York Islanders have been in contract negotiations with Mark Streit. These talks are in the preliminary stages however and if the Islanders fall out of playoff contention by the trade deadline it is possible that he will be moved. Streit himself however is only focused on his game:

“For me, the focus right now is on hockey and helping the team,” Streit said. “Especially for me as captain, I don’t want to have any distractions. I just want to play, win hockey games, and play as good as possible.”

Pro scouts from the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames, and Washington Capitals were all in attendance as the Philadelphia Flyers took on the New Jersey Devils last night according to NHL.com’s Adam Kimelman. With the Flyers struggles lately they may be making a move at the deadline.
