The Tampa Bay Lightning are bracing to be without their captain, Vincent Lecavalier for at least a week if not longer thanks to a lower-body injury according to Erik Erlendsson, the beat writer for the Tampa Tribune via Twitter.
The injury occurred late in Tuesday’s game against the Panthers and with the playoffs on the horizon, it’s the time of year that clubs don’t disclose the full extent of the injury hence the lower-body diagnosis.
Erlendsson tweeted this morning that GM Steve Yzerman confirmed Lecavalier will be heading to the IR which brings an automatic seven days of injury time.
Erlendsson then later tweeted that Yzerman confirmed that the club’s captain will in fact be out longer than the week that was originally believed.
Yzerman also said Lecavalier expected to be out longer than 7 days; he did not say who the call up from Syracuse would be

The Lightning have confirmed that Tyler Johnson will be joining the big club after being recalled from Syracuse of the AHL.
On the season, Lecavalier has 7 goals and 15 assists during 26 games for Tampa Bay.
Currently the Bolts sit in twelfth place in the Eastern Conference, five points back of the eighth place New York Rangers. Â Having Lecavalier on the shelf for more than a week will surely hurt the club’s chances of climbing the standings, something that could force Yzerman to make some moves at the trade deadline.
