The Ottawa Senators have acquired Matt Kassian from the Minnesota Wild for a 2014 6th round draft pick. Kassian participated in the Wild’s training camp but was assigned to their AHL affiliate on February 12 and hasn’t seen any play time with the Wild this season.
Kassian will add some much needed toughness to the Senators. In his 28 career NHL games he has 2 goals and 27 penalty minutes. In his 229 career AHL games he has 12 goals, 12 assists, and 505 penalty minutes.
Kassian said this about joining the Senators:
“I’m just incredibly excited. It’s going to be a great opportunity, it’s a great organization in the country that I was born in and raised in so it’s going to be exciting. I think Ottawa’s a beautiful city and I’ve always loved the place. Both me and my fiancée are incredibly excited to be a part of this.”
It is still unclear as to exactly when he will be joining the team, but it should be soon.
