Daily Poll: Will Predators Match Shea Weber’s Offer Sheet From Flyers

Last Night TSN’s Darren Dreger took time off from his vacation to announce that the Philadelphia Flyers have signed Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber to a offer sheet.

Today, everyone including media is trying to put the pieces together and figure out how this all went down.

Well, as it turns out, the Predators where trying to trade Weber and it sounds like a few teams where interested.

So yeah, we get it. The Philadelphia Flyers where tired of waiting on Nashville to pull the trigger on a trade, so they took it into their own hands and had Weber agree to an offer sheet.

Flyers always have been the ‘ You love them, You hate them’ team and it showed how quickly they can be more hated then loved.

"The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Shea Weber to a 14-year offer sheet worth a total of of $110 million. The deal includes $68 million in bonus money in the first six years.In total, Weber will make $14 million in each of the first four years; $12 million in years five and six; $6 million in each of the next four seasons; $3 million in year 11; and $1 million in each of the remaining years."

Predators GM David Poile has released a statement on Shea Weber’s offer sheet..

"Nashville, Tenn. (July 19, 2012) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile issued the following statement this morning:“We are in receipt of the offer sheet signed between the Philadelphia Flyers and Shea Weber. Under the rules pertaining to an offer sheet, the Predators have one week to decide whether to match or accept the compensation. We have stated previously that, should a team enter into an offer sheet with Shea, our intention would be to match and retain Shea. Our ownership has provided us with the necessary resources to build a Stanley Cup-winning team. Due to the complexity of the offer sheet, we will take the appropriate time to review and evaluate it and all of its ramifications in order to make the best decision for the Predators in both the short and long-term.“We do not anticipate any further comments on this situation until we make our decision within the next seven days.”"

So now the big question remains, will the Predators match the offer sheet or let their captain and best defensemen in the league, Shea Weber, walk.?

Well, because of the offer, if the Predators do let Weber walk, they will receive 4 first rounds picks in compensation. But if they do keep him, they will have to pay him 27 million in 1 calendar year. Ohh and the other issue with letting him walk, the cap floor will be hard to reach.
