The Calgary Flames had until 5:00 pm ET to sign Tim Erixon or they would loose him. So instead of watching him re-enter the draft, they have traded him to the New York Rangers.
Rangers have announced that they have signed Erixon to an entry level deal.
Flames Release is below….
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today they have acquired from the New York Rangers left winger Roman Horak (Chilliwack/WHL), and two Rangers 2nd round picks (projected to be 43rd and 57th overall) in this year’s NHL Draft in exchange for defenceman Tim Erixon and Calgary’s 5th round selection in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Horak, a native of Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, is coming off a career season with the Chilliwack Bruins where he netted a career high 26 goals along with 52 assists for 78 points in 64 games playing alongside Flames 2009 3rd round pick Ryan Howse. Horak just completed his second season with the Chilliwack Bruins and was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the 5th round (127th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
“Once we realized that we were not going to be able to come to terms with Tim Erixon, we wanted to make sure we turned that pick into an asset,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “We are excited to be able to get a player of Roman’s caliber in addition to landing two second round picks in the upcoming draft.”
