Report: Group looking at moving an NHL team to Seattle

News 1130 out of Vancouver, reports that a business group in Puget Sound is interested in moving an NHL team to Seattle.

With the “Highly Likely” rumors of Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg, i dont see what team this could be about. Maybe, Phoenix Coyotes? This of course, wouldn’t happen until next year.

Anyways the report does not have much detail to it, so i do not see this being a true report.

Maybe they should worry about the Vancouver Canucks, i mean, they are going to the Stanley Cup Finals…

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Imagine this: A hockey road trip down the I-5 to Seattle to watch the Canucks. There are reports a business group in Puget Sound is interested in moving an NHL team to Seattle.

With rumours flying the Atlanta Thrashers are relocating to Winnipeg any day now, several other franchises are known to be up for sale — including the always-troubled Phoenix Coyotes.

Update 1:24 pm EST…

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly – “We’ve had discussions with a group in Seattle, Certainly people who are interested in having NHL hockey in Seattle. I would rather not get into specifics to be fair to that group, or the process.”

From King5.com

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly was sitting at center ice to see it all.

“The league is in really good shape,” the league’s second-in-command told KING5 before the game, but admits, “all leagues want stability in ownership, and location, and we’re no different.”

He points to issues in cities like Atlanta, and Phoenix, where franchises have been struggling. Phoenix has been in bankruptcy court.

“We’ve had discussions with a group in Seattle,” said Daly, “Certainly people who are interested in having NHL hockey in Seattle. I would rather not get into specifics to be fair to that group, or the process.”

Daly says there is a lot for the NHL to like about Western Washington, including its proximity to BC.
