Sunday Spotlight: Sabres' Drew Stafford

Buffalo SabresDrew Stafford, 25, had a career year in the 2010-11 season, in 62 games played, he scored 31 goals, had 21 assists, for a total of 52 points and was a +13 in +/-.

Stafford was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1st round (13th overall) in 2004. He played his first NHL game in 2006-07 season. He is an restricted free agent on July 1st.

Stafford entered his 5th NHL season with high hopes, he had some injury problems, but they where over shadowed by his great play. He showed Sabres fans that he could be a great goal scorer in the NHL. I have bought into the hype, but some things worry me.

Stafford did play well, but it was his contract year. So will we see this from him on a daily basis next year? will he be signed for a long term deal? how much money should the Sabres spend on him.? The Sabres have over paid players in the past to keep them in Buffalo, but with new Sabres owner Terry Pegula, will things change or stay the same?

This is what i believe, Stafford will get a deal for around $3 – $4 Million, for 2-4 years. I do not think the Sabres will go more then four years and i sure hope its more then 1 year. I also hope the contract will be around $3 – $3.5 Million.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this, so please let me know how you feel in the comments section.
