NHL Mock Draft Pick #9: Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins seemingly have it all. An Eastern Conference finals berth, and now a top 10 pick to add to the arsenal. This pick originally belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs and is the final element of the infamous Phil Kessel trade. In preparation for this pick, I provided a brief outline of the Bruins’ needs yesterday.
Picking for the Bruins is Steve, the Editor for Causeway Crowd.
"Duncan Siemens, D, Saskatoon (WHL)"
Jared’s Analysis – As I predicted yesterday, this is the point in the draft where anyone in the top 20 could be picked. Boston chooses to go with Siemens, a big, skilled defenseman with a lot of mobility. He was ranked 11th by ISS, so he jumps a couple of spots into the top 10. Boston solidifies an organizational need on a prospect with a ton of upside who can and will be given time to develop. He also has a bit of a mean streak who isn’t afraid to drop the gloves as you can see in this video:
Causeway Crowd‘s editor Steve enlightens us on why he selected Siemens:
"Boston has a lot of talented young forwards in the system (Tyler Seguin, Jordan Caron, Brad Marchand, Zach Hamill) and Tuukka Rask as its goalie of the future. Therefore, the Bruins need to go out and find a young, talented defenseman who can contribute at both ends of the ice. The first choice would have been Niagara’s Dougie Hamilton, but with him off the board, the Bruins will select Saskatoon blueliner Duncan Siemens. The 6-foot3, 197-pounder will be one of the youngest players in the draft, but is also among the most talented. Scouts have tagged Siemens as a guy with good all-around skills would can help at both ends of the ice. Additionally, Siemens is one of the best skaters in the draft and provided leadership for Team Canada’s gold medal team at the 2010 Ivan Hinka tournament."
