NHL Rumor Wire – May 14th, 2011

The Buffalo Sabres need a center this off-season, Paul Hamilton from WGR 550 suggests that maybe the Philadelphia Flyers and Sabres could make a deal…. Mike Richards for Ryan Miller.

From Paul Hamilton (WGR550)

Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider said they no longer will get by in net. They are going out to find a first rate goalie. The Sabres are looking for a center. Anybody want to take on Mike Richards for Ryan Miller? Richards can be a handful, but he also can be a good hockey player. I have no idea if the Flyers are one of the few teams Miller would agree to go to.

It seems that Colorado Avalanche are going to let goaltender Peter Budaj go. Budaj will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and the Avalanche have no plans on bringing him back.

From Adrian Dater (Denver Post)

Peter Budaj appears done with the Avalanche.

At this stage, the Avs are prepared to move on from the goalie, who has been with the team since 2005. His contract is up, and there is no plan to re-sign him.

Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom is going to take his time before he decides on his future.

From Ansar Khan (MLive.com)

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Just like last year, Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom said he will take his time to decide whether to return next season or retire.

“I’m going to take my time and make a decision in the next little while, not sure how long it’ll take,” Lidstrom said after Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks in Game 7. “I’m going to take everything into account, whether it’s the series or the regular season or just the whole year.”
